Description

This ship had taken on it's experienced pilot and was approaching the infamous 'Rip' in Victoria Australia. It's an extremely narrow and dangerous gauntlet of reefs that every ship must make it's way through in order to reach Melbourne. Every ship must be steered through 'The Rip' by a local 'pilot' who climbs aboard the ship outside the heads and then safely guides it to port.

Its so amazing that ships of this size can navigate so completely through dangers like this. Wonderful sight to see it sit so high in the water and against that clear blue sky.

I watched one of these things sail down the Savannah River, I'd never seen one and was blown away at how big they really are. The pilots who guide these into port are amazing--great shot!!
