Description

Bryce6.1/DazStudio/Photoshop A battle-weary soldier returns to his barracks after a long, arduous tour of duty. His group has come under heavy alien fire, and he has lost a few good men to ruthless assault forces. As he slumps down on the hard metal bench, fatigued and shell-shocked,his thoughts turn to home and his wife. They are safe on Earth because of men like him, taking it to the alien race on it's home turf.He slips a hand beneath the bench and pulls out a worn metal box, opens it,and removes a round metallic disc...a holographic photodisc. As the glowing photos of his wife play before his eyes he runs a gloved hand over his scalp.Just seven more sun rotations and a two year return flight in cryostasis and he would be back home! Michael 3 and Major Cache oufit(Daz3D),Alrick skin mat(LA3D),morphs are my own...setting created entirely in Bryce6.1 using preset textures(some modified) and one camo phototexture from CGTextures.Sky is False Dawn, with sunlight disabled.Moonlight is a spot set outside the window and angled in,four radial lights with varying falloff settings and soft shadows create ambiant light in room.Bedding materials have folds and ripples created using several wave and stormy cloud procedurals.Rendering took eight hours at Superfine setting.Post in Photoshop involved some minor edge cloning on bedding,a levels adjustment, glow effect on halo image and signature. Thanks for viewing, and any comments you may wish to leave!

A very moving image, you're spot-on on the emotions of anyone who's been away from home for a long time, civilian and soldiers alike. And the graphics are top notch, comp, pose and lighting are all in harmony. Pictures that told implicit stories to express deep emotions went out of fashion after 1850, so I am allowed to call this a work of art - otherwise I would be tempted to do so ;o)

Moving story and an excellent image to go with it. The pose and expression are very natural, and the lighting is great. Beautiful scene all together.

Excellent modelling and lighting...the room's interior is great (is that HAL on the wall by the bed?). The holographic disk is a nice touch...you can see the longing in the man's face and posture. Very well done!!!

I think isolation is going to be one of the biggest drawbacks of interstellar travel - whatever technology we develop to get us there. This image beautifully captures the issue. Outstanding.
