Description

Part 9. After the ceremony for the installment of the new Governor the four had a chance to meet. The Queen thought that the Princess should be grateful. It is true that the Queen enabled her to escape life as a slave by handing Edward virtually on a plate. However the Princess's view of the Queen was more ambivalent for she had also lost her family, religion and kingdom. Nonetheless she recognised it was in her interest to appear friendly if only for Edward's sake. Edward was at first somewhat nervous about meeting Prince Eugene, his future Sovereign. It helped that Prince Eugene was an older man approaching 40 who had a commanding air but was good at putting people at their ease. A ruler of a relatively small city state, he had expanded his Kingdom in a series of brilliant military campaigns and now had an established reputation. Edward was at least content that he had lost the Queen to such an able recognised man. He felt sure he would get on well with the new ruler.
