Description

Now i have your attention, hopefully...LOL. I have been trying (for ages ) to merge a D/S figure with a high res background photo (this one is from deviant Art, i will post the link later, when i find it ). To do this image i posed the figure then, imported the background image, moved the figure to a suitable point then did the lighting....3 pointlights in similar colours to the background lighting, one main spot, actually in grey..this is the light that is allowed to cast the shadow... the only postwork is the addition of the tatoo on her leg. The image was sharpened in daz render editor and merged as a layer in the gimp with the first render. The question is, i know we all have different monitors and graphics cards but does it work ?? Your opinions would be very much appreciated. thanks, Ian Nice in full view as well by the way

Yes Ian, it worked fairly well :) You managed to match the colortones of BG and model. Also the positioning is good imho. Now you say it's a high res photo used for the bg, but I do see a lot of artifacts there. Could be the way you saved your image, for your model has them too. I personally am not too fond of sharpening the render inside DazStudio. That is because then I lose control of the edges, who often are 'oversharped' (is that a even a word?). I'd rather leave the render as-is, load it into my image program (me PS7, you Gimp), copy the layer, then enhanche sharpness of the top layer, erase all edges with a soft brush, merge both layers and voila. By the way, did I mention I like this image very much? Well, I do! :)

The colours look fine to me and the tonal quality seems to blend well with the photo. The only thing that doesn't look quite right, I think, is the strong shadows below her chin and her right hand... there doesn't seem to be any correspondence in the photo lighting. Great character and tatoos.

It works really well, i agree with jambrose that the shadows need to be softened. otherwise a great picture :)

wonderful scene. I agree about the shadows seeming to fall in the wrong place. The light should have come from behind right(the extended arm) to match the photo. It is also, for my taste, just a bit "oversharpened". But she does fit in the scene well in proper perspective. I stink at using premade backgrounds or photos, so take my advice with a grain of salt, lol

I agree with jambrose too, some shadows are too dark and the edges are too sharp . Lights colors are OK. Wonderful. BTW!

The merge is rather well done, I think. Hard to tell it's a BG.

I would have to agree with the others about the shadows. The point of light is coming from behind her therefore the front shadows are too strong and need to be softened way down !! But an excellent attempt with some very good results

I agree with what's been said -- you matched tone and perspective very well. Great character and tatt, by the way! And yes, it is either oversharped, or perhaps artifacts from resizing the image? Excellent job though, something I have not attempted!

The contrast and tones match the background fine, but the lighting is off, from the right in the background, and from the left on your figure.Hair is dissapearing in the chest, and a bad angle on her left forearm. But you will get that right eventually, that's why people need to let you know these things instead of just saying "Great render". Trying not to be real critical, trying to help.

Nicely done...I would say you need more light coming from the direction of the courtyard area as that would be the light source for the photo...the strong shadow under her skin suggests your spot is pointed face on at her, which doesn't relate to the background...still,this is a very fine merging of the figure and photo!

All I can say is it looks better than similar attempts I have made! Great effort!

I totally agree with grafikeer, about your light source it must come indeed from the courtyard, but i still find it a great image and you blend your character perfect on your photo.....very well done.

Very nice image ! Wonderful work blending the photo and figure :) Maybe as mentioned above light from courtyard more dominant, which would put light on right hair and more shadow on right neck, but light colors are very well matched. Also, my monitor is showing black outline artifacts around her thighs and arms. I had toyed with gimp for a few months and stopped using it because I would get these effects when trying to get file to 500 mb size. Looking through your gallery (very nice btw) it seems some other images of 1300+ px dimension are doing this to, but smaller images are very crisp, so in this I think gimp is culprit perhaps. Altogether though a splendid image :)

I think that it worked real well, cannot denote a difference from where she is to the background, but for some reason the effects on the legs, hips, and other bare skin areas are a bit distracting, like an x-ray, but other than that, outstanding work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
