Description

A vision quest is a sacred journey for North American aboriginal peoples. It's a rite of passage into adulthood and helps one learn their path in life. Once they are ready for it, a young person goes out on their own to seek their spirit guide. Although the rituals vary between peoples, it often involves fasting and chanting. ----- I thought Spring was here, but alas, it has started to snow yet again. Nevertheless, I have so much to do to the house this year, I am starting anyway. It might be awhile before I can post again and I may not be around a lot. I have been working on this image for close to 2 months... I know most could do it in a day, but every image is a challenge for my muddled mind. I think I redid this 30 or more times. It is always a special time to see you post, knowing how much it hurts and the energy it now takes. So this image seems particularly pertinent as it too is a quest through pain. Who is to say how long any work should take any person to do.. that is to externalize what is in fact an innately personal quest. You did it and that is what counts; nothing else really matters. Sandy! this is gorgeous! Worth every minute you spent on it! The lighting, OMG, it is just fabulous .. the light of the setting sun to the right is so real, how it lights up the clouds and how the skies color changes from right to left .. and the fire, how it lights up the young Native American's face and body, it's just so perfect! Every little detail is awesome. Yup, I like it. Hope you have time to post now and then, even if you don't have time to visit galleries. Hope you get all the things you need to do, but don't forget to take time to rest, too.

You have really captured the spirit of the vision quest here, with your lighting and your use of symbolism. This is superb! Wonderful lighting, detail, and mood. I love the hand markings, especially the ones on his chest which in their subtlety seem almost a trick of the light or markings of his inner self. Beautiful blue shadows, ruddy coloring and golden highlights. Excellent rendering of the fire and smoke. Absolutely gorgeous!
