Description

At last .. we're getting someplace interesting that feels like where I wanted to go at the start. There is a comfort now in blending what I've learned from other mediums in a manner that feels new. I guess we'll all soon see where it leads me.    I would like to dedicate this work to a friend here at Ren', Marshall (CitizenM).  I would also like to quote an excerpt of something he wrote the other day from the heart.  These words resonated with me and I believe they will also have meaning for others.    Sometimes the legitimacy of 3D art is challenged, which is something that happens to all new media.  It took decades before Photography earned fair respect as a "serious" art form.    In relating his reaction to such a criticism recently, Marshall wrote, in part:    "Most of us do something different here, and I primarily mean this 3d stuff. ... The thing that keeps this on my mind is the perception outsiders have about what we do.  It's not just running a box and making pictures pop out.  This isn't word processing.  This is or can be, really should be, so much more.  This is a relatively new medium with lots of niches and styles to be filled.  Our job is to show the other people what they cannot see.  This box is just a tool.  These models, textures and poses are just tools.  We create the art.  We create what they cannot see.  I am mastering my tools and technique.  I have a point of view and a way of seeing.  I would be using a burnt stick and rock if i had to.  I'm glad I don't.  I use software and a stylus.  I'm an Artist."    To Marshall, and to everyone who follows this little gallery, I just want to say, listen solely to the guidance of your muse.  Please her with your heart's desire; if you've chosen a creative life .. nothing else matters.    May your finest visions and dearest dreams find their full expression! Terry

Dear Terry; I agree with the words in their work, each work in our gallery is different. The same model undergoes a radical change of arista to another according to their vision and artistry. Often I make a sketch of what I translate in 3D, is an art really discussed and I believe that the natural tendency is increasingly being accepted as the work is quite different from one artist to another. Most believe that we can not abandon the techniques of drawing and painting that are inherent to humans and the base to work here! Forgive me for using a translator, so I'm posting in Portuguese as well. Great job! Big hug. Excelente trabalho!!! Grande abraço. Orlando

Exactly. Just as you say, photography took decades for the purists to accept as art. And so it is not surprising that many traditionalists sneer at 3-d, as if anyone could take a model from a box and produce a beautiful or stunning work from it. The wide range of quality and styles seen in these galleries attest to that being not even slightly true. Go any vendor's credit gallery and look at how many different characters are being made from a single vendor character. If it were mindless drivel we were doing they would all look the same. But they do not. And Terry you proved that in your last work with even just a simple texture change and no intent to make great art but just doing grunt studio work. Those who critique 3-d have most likely not picked up a mouse and given it a whorl. I think they would be surprised. Every generation uses the tools of their age to create.

Wow! This is really exquisite work. And about the legitimacy of any art; I long ago read that art is that which reminds us that we've forgotten that we don't know who we are. Is that ever a mouthful. If an image, or music, a play, etc. kicks our lives into gear, it's art. :-)

Thanks for the support and friendship, Terry. It means a lot. Good friends are hard to find. I think an artist should study and practice that which has come before. Just like a musician. Even if you only play heavy metal, for example, you should still understand classical and opera. At least if you want to be an artist, in my opinion. Just like we should study other mediums and real life. I've seen to many awful attempts at comic book art by young guys who only studying comic book artists. We should really master our tools and look outside of our 3D, pixel-pushing element before we dive back into it. It'll only help. I'm sure I'm not saying anything new here. And that's cool too. Terry, ya got me on a soap box again! :) Let's talk about what is important here: This dream girl series is working very well for me. They're taking me to actual dreams I've had recently and years ago. Coincidental? Not usually. Maybe just picking up the same universal frequencies? Gorgeous work as usual!

Excellent lighting. The texture makes it look more like a drawing than a 3D figure. Can't decipher the emotion on this one. She seems mesmerized by something.

I think wysiwiq convey's my feelings about your image the most :) As for art, I simply have no clue. I only know when I am moved by something, be it music, paintings, poems and 3D. You seem to move me a lot Terry, so.. are you an Artist?
