Description

Making some slow progress on the hat set. Not doing anything done today as I seen to have slid backwards on my recovery and feel much worse. I am home sick in otherwords. I did get this one done the other night though. I am finding that Poser 8 and Windows 7 are mking it much more work and taking longer to build things as I have to compensate for the differences. Just a quick comment on Poser 8 ... new libray set up ... hate it with a passion. but the main problem I am having is if I join props in poser 8 and export them, it changes the material names which I have to fix in UV Mapper. Never had to do that before. Example, I load 4 pillars all with the material "pillar" when exported and then reimported (to make a welded set of 4) the material names have changed to "pillar:1", "pillar:2", "pillar:3" and "pillar:4". This would be great if it was a function I could ask for but not if I have no choice in the matter. This one little "flaw" is adding hours to my work time. I do allot of assembly work in poser, always have becasue it was very time efficient. Now it is not. I will be emailing Smith Micro to see if they can fix this PIA. On a less of a griping note, the hats shown on display are three of the included hats in the Steampunk Set 1. (not yet in market)

Poser 8 sounds like a pain--if I upgrade I think I'm going for Poser Pro 2010. Sounds like you could drop back to Poser7 until they come out with a SR for Poser8. This made me laugh--what a great "hat shop" ("Take the tophat!") Feel better soon!

Seems like a very exclusive store. One wonders how they can pay their electric bill with such a small selection, and take care of their plumbing issues. Maybe this is the end of the sale where there are only 3 hats left. Cool looking picture, and sorry to hear about your P8 problems.

This is very cool. Your pipes background is very real. I have Poser 8 but the library stinks. I stick to Poser 6 for set up and Poser 7 for rendering. It it works, go back to the older versions Mike.

I'm not tryinmg to scare folks away from poser 8, it has some really good features. But the interface is very different then you are use to. I do find the libraries counter productive.

Looks great. On the rename bit, yeah its a change that is a pain as it adds a number to body parts/materials like :1 or :2 etc. based on how many instances of the same name appear or number of items being combined. Here is an easy way to fix it using a text editor like edit pad lite. Open the obj as a text file and do a search and replace starting with what you think is the highest :# for example say you have :1 :2 on up to :6 The put :6 in the search field and leave the replace field empty then do a replace all. This will remove the : and # so that where you had material:6 or part:6 you will now have material and part (with out any : or number). Do this for :5 on down to :1 Can be done fairly quickly. Then save with .obj as file extension to put it back as obj geometry. If you look at it now you will find all like parts/materials have been combined and no :# so it goes back to how it use to be when you exported. Not sure why they did that but like you I hate it. I believe it still does this in Poser Pro but I can tell you the P8 menu in Poser Pro works and is much more stable and does not drive you nutso like P8 does. At least not me. I had gone back to using Poser 7 Pro for work when P8 came out as I hated it for much the same reasons. I like Poser Pro 2010 a lot and now I use it for pretty much everything. Sorry to have made this so lengthy I started to just email you but thought maybe the info on editing the obj might be of interest/help to others.

Fantastic scene and beautiful shopper, love the hats and the background, outstanding work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Definitely agree, I very much dislike programs which save things under new names making it harder, time consuming to find and then rename if the program will allow it.
