Description
A pilot refuels his Evans VP1 homebuilt aircraft at an airshow in Yorkshire. (phone cam)
The aircraft is a single-seat, open cocpit, taildragger designed by Bud Evans, a Californian who recently died in his 90s. The airshow fly-in at Breighton, near Selby in Yorkshire was in his honour. These aircraft are not kits, they are scratch-built from a set of plans and powered by a Volkswagen car engine

that cockpit must feel like a cocoon.excellent shot. I have a portrait of a WWII RAF pilot that lives here and I will post soon

Have to make a few points here, guys. The cockpit is quite comfortable if not spacious. The VP has an excellent safety record over the past 40 years or so and is docile in the air. This particular machine has been flying well over 30 years. The VW, 4 stroke engine is also pretty reliable. It's a delighful little aircraft as seen by the smiles on the faces of all who fly her. Doesn't take much to get a man or woman into the air does it? This is a neat tribute to Bud Evans and his very active life. Thanks. Signed...an old pilot:)
