Description

This photo of Leif Ericson's statue at the feet of Reykjavik's cathedral (hidden behind renovation scaffolding here) is my personal way of paying tribute to the courage and determination of the thousands of Icelandic households, men and women who've been facing a severe economic recession since the beginning of the financial crisis in 2008...The Viking past and the current mutation of Iceland seem to be united in this photo...

Leif Ericson (Old Norse: Leifr Eiríksson) (c. 970 – c. 1020) was a Norse explorer who is regarded as the first European to land in North America (more precisely in Newfoundland) , nearly five hundred years before Christopher Columbus.

Magnificent capture .. a strong character. I was reading today in the news about the volcanic eruption in Iceland .. and fears that it may activate a bigger volcano nearby which would mean a lot of damage.
