Description

FE Talis varI It's Mothers Day today in the U.K. Mothering Sunday is on the fourth Sunday of Lent. It is often called Mother's Day in Britain. However it has no connection with the American festival which is also known by the same name. On this day children often give their mothers gifts and cards as a way of saying thank you for their hard work. In church, prayers are said for mothers at a special service. In the past girls who worked as domestic servants were given the day off work to visit their mothers. They often took a simnel cake as a present. Simnel cake is especially associated with Mothering Sunday. It is a fruit cake with two layers of almond paste. On top there are eleven balls of marzipan, one for each faithful disciple, Judas not being included as he betrayed Jesus. I have put the balls in myself, as if you could not tell of course, because to me they represent the amount of juggling every Mother has to do to keep a tight ship. Have a lovely day. I am being taken out to lunch:-)

A SPLENDID picture and moving Jenny! Regarding Mother's Day, the Day of the Woman, this has nothing to do with religion, or laws, but single mothers heard women, you and your sisters should be honored every day ... especially if the it is Catholic, because religion is the most macho of all Western religions. Each year when I was a kid, I made a special card with cutouts for my mom. a picture of her was still trapped between two layers dust that appears behind the curtains of a window that I designed .. My mother has been dead 40 years, and with his world collapsed disaprition ..

I love the colors, the shining on them, and that special outcome of the balls. How beautifully you make this, just on Mothers Day. Thank you Jenny, for telling that part of history about that day. Wish you a lovely lunch (and day too).

I think Mother's Day here in "the Colonies", grins, has become terribley commercialized. It is sad. I think it's original intent was much as it is in the UK, to honor Mothers, to thank them for all the hard work through the year. I love YOUR concept of the Marzipan balls, as to me it's makes so much more sense. A lovely image for Mothering Day, I hope your lunch was marvelous and tasty, and your day, wonderful.
