Description

I got tired of just guessing what direction to make the shadows go in an outside scene. So I started working on a sunlight controller. Okay, yes, I am a total geek in real life. This object sets the sun in the proper place in the sky, and has a distant light (IBL) parented to it that will cast shadows in the proper direction. You have to set the time of day (there's a 24-hour clockface on it) and the latitude (you'll need an atlas) and the season (the sun is higher in the summer than in the winter). The first three pictures show setting these three parameters. Then I've got a pair of renders for a little after 8 AM, and a little after 3 PM, for a spot about 70 degrees N latitude, in early June. The top render of each pair shows the controller, and the bottom render shows a view from the"south" looking at the controller and a cabin in the background so you can see the change in shadows. The final render is from north of the controller, on the ground looking up, so you can see the sun in the sky. I used a Mapps / RichardPhotos pedestal to set the controller on, and then landscape and cabin from the Walls Abound set. Because Mapps / RichardPhotos is awesome. Now, I'm not a very good modeler, so the object itself could use a makeover by someone who is good at that stuff. But at least I've satisfied my need for a way to put the Sun in the right place, and get shadows moving the right way! Would anyone think this would make a cool product? Thanks for looking!

I'm not a Poser/Daz artist...but it seems to be a good product.

Is it as good as a stone circle on a wet, cloudy, damp squid of a day, or is it just another must have piece of technology?

I'll take one! This looks like it took quite a bit to figure out. I'm all spoiled on Carrara's sun/atmosphere system that I get really confused on how to make it look realistic in D|S. ;P

I think it's a stroke of pure genius. Would it work in poser too? You should definitely put this on the market.
