Description

Southern California tends to be a pretty dry place for most of the year. As a result I have had to stand by and look with envy at the vast variety of fungi posted by Andrea (durleybeachbum) from her perch in merry old, moist England. Well no more! While examining a fallen tree trunk in the Marsh last Sunday I found a curious object growing on it. I gently poked at it with a stick and found it to be soft. My first fungal upload.

Very interesting fungus! It looks like it has babies. You know it's not nice to poke with a stick, even gently. They might hide the next time you're about. Excellent detail! Great first fungal find upload!

I rarely declare something to be "my first fungus" as I don't think fungus should be too closely associated with me. :-) But in this case, the association is a good declaration. You did very well! :-)

OMG it's beautiful! Fungus is a great subject, not only for photography but for general discussion. Do you have any photos of "shelf" fungus?

It looks very like the penny buns we used to have at morning break at school! Congratulations, Mark, on joining the ranks of fungi-lovers!..(I should have looked up the Latin) There should be lots of small fungi of sorts round the marsh now it's damp again..some of them very small.
