Description

FE Talis varI My thanks for your thoughts, which I always like to read,on yesteday's pic. It was interesting to see how so many of you mentioned the sea for that is just how sleep comes, in waves. This one is much more sombre but something I worry about more and more often and wonder where all the tree felling without replacing will end. We plant young trees in our own gardens, but it will never be enough.

Makes me think of a more modern fantasy...Avatar and the interconnectedness (what a funny looking word), of the plant life on Pandora. Beautiful image, and I know what you mean. The Pacific Northwest where I live was built on logging. As devastating as well, is how they keep making the farmland disappear. Doesn't anyone wonder where we'll grow tomorrow's potatoes?

I am far from being a fan of ecology, but I notice that when meem in my country, France, there are two extreme attitudes. The first is to plant as many trees we cut down, sometimes meem a little more, and we have small and beautiful forests ... In contrast, under the pretext that the French love the sun, it destroyed More and more wild lands to build in the south of France, private houses with small gardens and large areas of concrete ... and the result is that there are more and more floods, and they are not due to global climate, but the lure of money and concrete construction to the death! jenny always admire your work, and these trees in the moonlight, I feel like a return of "Undead"!

A beautiful fractal, Jenny!. I really see the trees bleed. This must be a nightmare for all that trees who are being cut of. What certainly does not dispel, that I find this a wonderful portrayal!

You are right about the trees. Luckily, most bleeding stops and doesn't affect them long term. All except a very few (all podocarps, I think). Our NZ kauri does not heal itself. Any wound continues to bleed for the entire (truncated) life of the tree. It is a deep sadness to us, and it's almost always inflicted by tourists, which gives us a somewhat ambivalent attitude towards them. Even though they've been told not to injusre the trees, many take no notice. Which makes us feel that some things are just too valuable to show to visitors. But I acknowledge the deeper issue you are talking about. If the rainforests are being felled to make room for crops of, for instance, palm oil, that kind oo wound also does not heal. And palm oil isn't the weonder oil that has been promoted. It's really quite ordinary. The key, of course, is that it's cheap--in every way other than the cumulative cost to the planet.

Stunningly evocative image Jenny. Others, right here above, have perfectly supported your concerns. Concerns which I share. Sadly, where politics and big business are concerned, cupidity - and its rhymer, stupidity - rules. Like your trees, my heart bleeds for what our descendents are going to face.

I too worry about how many trees people cut down and never replace. Lets hope this trend reverses soon. An amazing fractal with the great bleeding wounds showing so well.

Extremely powerful image. I never thought about deforestation in terms of a holocaust. I am reminded of a drive I once took along a road in Northern California through what I though was a forest. As I came to the end of a row of magnificent trees I could see nothing but bare land behind the trees, three deep, that lined the highway. All the other trees had been cut down.

I too had a similar experience as wysiwig said. Now this provokes me to think that, man kind can be generally divided in to two- creative and the destructive. Unfortunately, the most destructive are the most powerful. To add more horror in to it, even the creative sometimes turns to be destructive.

Trees are also symbolic of 'mankind'. I worry too about trees and mankind in this currently destructive world.
