Description
Gloucester Meteor jet , entered service in 1944 , the only allied jet to see service in world war 2 . This example seen at Newark air museum on a very cloudy day!

Clearly seen better times. I remember as a young lad seeing these and the Vampire, also the Navies equivilent, the Venom flying around Somerset. Nostalgic!!

Too bad they are letting the old girl goto pot, big ol dent in the engine cowling and they only replaced the broken windows and left that old plexi that is turning yellow, its a shame, bit o history falling apart, so much goes much the same way, A little cleaning, a bit o lacker and these things would last neerly forever, but people just let em rust away or in the case of aluminum corode away, corse its much worse here in the states, much of our aviation history was crushed and dumped in a hole in the ground. Most of the rest, got dumped out in the desert and then cut up as scrap.

Nice shot. The Meteor had a historical role for sure, although I wonder at the idea of naming it after a chunk of flaming debris that crashes into the planet! :) Martin Baker used one for a long time as an ejection seat trials aircraft. Anyone know if it's still flying?
