Description
This brave little bushfire survivor became world famous when the video of a fire fighter giving her a drink went prime time! She was rehabilitated from her terrible burns and became loved by millions of people. Then we got the terrible news. After an unrelated operation, Sam was euthanized on 6 August 2009. The decision was made after exploratory surgery on her bladder and uterus to evaluate the possible removal of cysts caused by urogenital chlamydiosis. As her condition was inoperable the veterinarian stated that the decision was made to euthanize to prevent her suffering. She is now on permanent display at The Museum of Melbourne. This is where I took this photo.
You can see the original film of Sam's beautiful first drink HERE , and you can visit her official site HERE
RIP Samantha.

what a shame... Beautiful... And was the fire 'natural' or created by people who should have their testicles removed... ? Rob

This is a wonderful story--I love seeing the rough and tough firefighter petting and helping her. A sad ending to a very sweet tale.

Sorry to hear such tragic news my friend. We also have some of these little creatures at our Local Zoo. In fact we have a part of the Zoo set aside for animals from Australia. I will take pictures as soon as i visit the Zoo again.
