Description

Namibia 2010 All I can say is that this is a BIG BUG and it was in a hurry!!! This creature is easily 3 inches long... Yikes!!! I managed to shoot off a couple of images but most of them are blurred.(camera hand held) They are plentiful in Namibia and makes the most aweful noise... Anyway - thought I'll share my (not so) little friend with you!! Hope everyone has a great weekend! We have a three day weekend! Yay!!! Stay well! Hugs, Carin xx

Looks a little like a scarab (dung beetle) but not so colorful. I generally avoid bugs large enough to carry off small dogs. A bravery medal for you for getting such a fantastic shot.

What a super thing! I want to hear the noise now. So you were trembling? does that acccount for the shaking? I wish we had a few more this size!

Neat story of this mini-monster. He sure looks armored for self-defense. Maybe his noise making ability is also defensive unless he's scurrying around looking for a girlfriend:)

The focus on the bug is pretty good, considering his speed! I can see how fast he was moving ... the ground, his legs, the grass ... all a bit blurred. Wonderful shot showing motion! Thanks for the size warning. I had imagined him to be about an inch, tops. Three inches!!! That's incredible!

Keen kapture of what looks some kind of scarab beetle, Carin, with pincer-like claws and a frontal shield to ward off the blows and nips of its foes. Looks almost prehistoric. You are so fortunate to have had the opportunity to come across this fearsome critter!

Ooh, this is a zoomer for sure. Definitely a dung beetle, which if you're one of those Ancient Egyptian types, you'd recognize the scarab god Khephra who was responsible for rolling the sun across the sky with his hind legs. This is an extravagant specimen, by the way, and I'd have picked him up if it's a he...if its a she, I wouldn't pick her up as she probably laid eggs in a nice ball of home-rolled dung. Anyway...this is a gorgeous shot and I love the up-close and intimate nature of it. Great stuff! And well...it's a bug so naturally I'd like it.
