I love the scratched texture in this, as if the portrait was scratched out onto a surface. It definitely suits the mood.

It's always great to return to your pure abstracts, they're all wholly "Mandy" pieces, but each one is always new & different. This one is very intense, lots of lines following each others' contours; and some intersections. And you've given shapes to many of the lines, as if they were cell structures or the smaller moving molecules that make up cells. Your microcosmic abstractions are always chock full of energies & pulls---although this could be macro-cosmic too, a kind of swirling nebula or leftovers from an exploding star. As often, with your more limited palettes (fewer colors), you get variety through subtle changes in hue & through subtle changes in texture. And here you have plateaus of small living larvae swirling around inside larger borders, like tide pools or little colonies in the whole. The piece is actually filled with hues when one looks closely. And I swear, I swear there's a primal person in the center, like one of those dancing boddhisattvas, or some figure out of folklore, a goddess or god who could be dreaming this whole thing from scratch. Maybe I'm the only one who sees this and should get some glasses, lol, but if you look hard, lower center (hell, I'll send you a map!). Love the piece and its energies. Your abstracts are always great treats, Mandy.
