Description

In winter, when tundra swans fly south, this is where they stay. January in the Skagit Valley brings bald eagles and tundra swans, along with photographers and bird watchers. The big hill in the background is Fidalgo Island, if I'm not mistaken. Tundra swans have black feet and black beaks, and the adults are pure white otherwise. The cygnets are gray until their second year. This group contains two adults and three juveniles. I figured if the swans in these fields were tundra swans, then the cows in the same fields must be tundra cows, and the horses must be tundra horses. Now that seems logical, doesn't it? Well. My friends were having none of it. Lela said the cows were Holsteins. Personally, I liked my version better!

Then you must be a tundra woman, and so am I! I like your story much better!! We have tundra swans here too, but I haven't seen them this year. I keep looking, but they're probably gone by now!!

Tundra it is! I worked with a woman years ago who retired to Fidalgo Island with her new husband. It seemed so romantic. I can begin to see why in this image.

A beautiful scene...one I haven't seen yet...but one that being an annual event will be around for a long time to come. Glad you captured the mist. It makes a perfect backdrop for the swans:)

I like your version better too. Tundras are cool. I live near the frozen tundra (Lambeau Field). I really think this shot is totally cool. I couldn't silently stalk this one!

I agree about the cows, but only if the migrate! And if they do, best stay away from their flight patterns, or carry a BIG umbrella!
