The Spring Equinox for 2010 actually took place on 20th March at 17:32 GMT
GMT was founded in 1884 to assist in navel navigation. It started at 12 noon and was changed in 1925 to midnight.
Universal time comes in different version UT0,UT1,UT2 and in 1962 UTC which is based on Atomic Time. Since the Earth is slowing down, another second has been added since 1972 each year called the leap second. Sorry I miss timed my post. Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox.
The first day of spring also marks the beginning of Nowruz, the Persian New Year.
