Description

Another advanced design vehicle from SWORD (Scientific World Organisation for Research and Development). The military needed a short range battlefield transport that could take off and land like a conventional aircraft, but which also had a VOTOL capacity, this is what SWORD came up with for them. Picture 1 (Top Right) - APC loaded aboard SRT for field drop test at SWORD's North American facility. Picture 2 (Bottom Right)- SRT in VOTOL mode lift's off. Vehicle also has the ability to take off and land like a conventional aircraft. Picture 3 - (Bottom Left) - After lift off SRT rotates wings for conventional flight and heads for drop test area. Picture 4 (Top Left) - APC deployed with drop chute. Chute is standard equipment in SRT's and is lowered into place and attached to APC (and any other military vehicles) from roof of SRT by flight crew and fitted into place whilst aircraft is in flight. Artist/Authors Note Got the idea for this vehicle from the Short's Skyvan from many years ago. For those that do not know the Skyvan it was intended to be the Ford Transit Van of the skies.

Great image! It strikes me as entirely likely that the future will see military expeditions loading up BTRs, they are ubiquitous wheeled vehicles and will remain in national inventories for decades.
