Description

While walking with my granddaughter, we disturbed a nest of Floridas famous fire ants. Fire ants are a variety of stinging ants with over 280 species worldwide. They have several common names including ginger ants and tropical fire ants. They do swarm and bite to defend their nest. ZOOM is a must. Some information from Wikipedia. Photo taken March 20th in Oviedo, Florida. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments and favs. Dana

They're moving a couple of eggs (pupae?) as well I see. Funny how something so small can be so alarming!

I recall running into these little devils in a mangrove swamp in Vietnam. Believe me we didn't stick around and put as much distance between them and us as we could as fast as possible:) Glad you waited around to take a picture of 'em!!!

This reminds me an old "Z" movie, with Sharlton Heston, "The Naked Jungle". Great.
