Description
Back in the 19th century the poor tin miners of Cornwall had to spend all their working lives (most never reached their 40th birthdays)down these mines, hardly ever seeing the light of day (except on Sunday). Their only light was from a candle which was made by the ladies and made to a certain length which told the men how long their work had lasted and when to come to the surface. It was their only clock.
All food was wrapped in pastry, hence the birth of the Cornish pasty. This made it easier for them to eat whilst carrying on with their work.

Life wasn't much better than that of a rat was it? These definitely weren't the good old days for these miners. Excellent bit of history to ponder.
