Description

This was the church that I grew up going to. I have avoided photographing it for years now. In those days, the Catholic Brothers/Priests were often extremely brutal to say the least, with beatings being a daily occurrence. So it holds mixed memories for me. But it's a nice enough building and it's not the bricks and mortar's fault...so here it is!

I did 12 years of Catholic school, including 4 at an all girl's high school. They didn't beat me, but they sure knew how to scare the heck out of me, especially as a 6 year old first grader. The vision of that nun flying down the aisle, robes flying and her rosary clacking, to yell at some poor kid is the kind of thing nightmares are made of. You're right about the bricks, and I'm glad you can now look at the building again.

No, indeed, not the bricks n mortars fault.. Afraid my opinion of the Catholic Church was tarnished by the image of some crone, (my brothers mother in law), forcing my nephews onto their knees by their hair to kiss the feet of a statue of Mary.. And further by all of the child abuse cases.. AND the Popes denial of the seriousness of these things! Until Catholic priests are allowed to marry, their will always be child abuse in that Church... Rant over! Sorry mate! Again! Rob

Great capture! what's interesting is that the Eastern Catholic priests can marry and the abuse cases are almost non-existent - go figure

This is superb! The colors and POV are astounding, and as I always say...never let religion get in the way of a good piece of architecture! I can go on and on about religious brutality (and on some more) but instead, I'll simply say what a fantastic shot this is and how ironic, but before I go off on a 100 page rant on the evils of organized religion, I'll just shut up and enjoy this fine piece of gorgeous photographic work.

I’m looking at this for its architectural view point and the icons on the frout are outstanding. Great capture! My years as an altar boy were fine but as an adult there were too many things going on that went against my religious beliefs. Dana
