Description

...caught in the act of hammering relentlessly at a tree I was passing underneath. As I looked up I spotted the distinct red color of a Red Spotted Woodpecker. They are quite common here in the local forest, and at this time of the year they're quite busy doing their thing... the sound of hammering can be heard quite frequently. It's a small miracle they don't suffer from constant concussion... ;o)))

He's in fine plumage too Kalli. It's a smashing pic. I miss seeing them where I live now. One was trying to get insects out of a clothes post in my garden in Shropshire during a bad winter.

Well, bird brains are pretty small, which is why we call some people bird brains, I guess. Great looking photo of this guy. I bet he needs an aspirin!
