Description

Some of you know that I am a Police Officer in Houston. A few months ago we took on a new patrol area in a residential zone, and the other day I was dispatched there for a suspicious person call. When I arrived I found this guy, along with about 20 or so of his buddies. Funny thing is when I rolled my window down to snap his photo, he came right up on my patrol car. I guess he thought I was going to feed him. Keep in mind we are talking about the city of Houston Tx. I would have never expected to find a flock of Peacocks roaming the streets. As it turns out the residents of this neighborhood takes care of the birds. They started with 4, and over the years the number has grown to around 50. The first thing I thought of when I saw this guy was Erestorfan and Mrestey. They live in one of the most beautiful areas on the planet and take some amazing photos to share with the rest of us. If you haven’t seen them, do yourself a favor and head over to their galleries. It’s been sort of a running joke with us that they live in such a picturesque place while I’m surrounded by steal and concrete. So hear ya go guys, a picture from the big city. ;) Taken with my cell phone and from the seat of my car. BTW if anyone is wondering, the suspicious person I was called there for turned out to be a cable guy who had gone into the wrong ladies back yard.

LOL, but he does have a beady, suspicious eye to go with that glorious plumage! Arcadia, a suburb of LA, has them too--I think they were escapees from the Arboretum and then they were adopted by the community. You have to drive slowly in that neighborhood, because they will amble out into the road..I have a bright blue car and I had a peacock come, stop in front of me, display his fan and do a 360 twirl in front of me while I looked at my watch. I finally had to get out and shoo him away with a map so I could get to where I was going! He must have thought my car was fabulous, or maybe he was admiring himself in my bumper;)

Those cell cams are better all the time. Everywhere has beauty if you look. Well done and you are welcome to stray to NH anytime you need a vacation.

Nice photo of this slippery looking fellow. I'll trade you about 3000 of our Canadian Geese for your 50 Peacocks - the blasted things are EVERYWHERE here! Although I can't imagine how they wound up in Houston unless they broke out of the zoo or something LOL! It's pretty cool that the neighborhood has 'adopted' them! I'm sure Mike and Holly will get a kick out of this. Frankly, I'd like to go camping with them - the cuisine Mike comes up with looks like it came from a 5-star restaurant!

Hey eekdog, I didn't have anything. But he got so close that I thought he was going to climb in the car with me and look.

Oh Roy this is a great picture! I can't believe you took it with your cell phone! And a flock of peacocks in the middle of the city...now THAT'S got to be something unusual, LOL!! That color blue on them has got to be one of the prettiest colors ever...but they can get loud! I'm surprised no one has called the police or animal control over the noise! Hmm...maybe this guy wasn't begging for food...perhaps he wanted to do a ride along with you!!! Glad you let us know the outcome of the call. I was wondering!!!

WOW Roy! That's cool! That's a pretty good picture for a cell phone camera. Peacocks are SO beautiful! Noisy, but beautiful! But what do you mean you had nothing to feed it. Don't cops always have doughnuts in their car with them? Hehe. When you come up to NH to go camping you can bring a couple of those with you. I could probably whip up something tasty. LOL. Thanks for thinking of us buddy.

Lol, what a funny story. He is a beauty but he does look like he could get mean and second especially if you don't feed him immediately as a toll.
