Description

After a pleasant evening in BoysTown, Chip and I were heading back to my apartment when we caught sight of this interestingly lit scene outside of the Belmont Red Line el station. We discovered that it was the new, ultra-vivid Walgreens sign reflecting in the streets wet with "snizzle." For those of you unfamiliar with Midwestern US weather, "snizzle" is a combination-word of "snow" and "drizzle." It is yet another of the strange atmospheric conditions we get in this part of the country. I made this picture in the Lakeview area of Chicago on March 20, 2010. * I'm way behind on commenting and so I plan to do my best to catch up as much as possible this upcoming weekend. But rest assured, I greatly appreciate all of the fantastic comments I receive. Hopefully, this weekend, I will get to make quite a few of my own.

We get swizzle---not quite rain, but annoyingly wet!! I love this shot, all the lights and reflections, but dang, it must be COLD!!

Being from the more southerly climes of Kansas...snizzle is new to me...thank goodness. But I like your description and I can visualize it to a "T". We used to get such stuff in New York too. I do like your photo Corey...all wet and shiny. The good thing about businesses is they do keep our streets brilliantly lit. A fine shot...transmitting the feel of this neighborhood to all of us from somewhere else.

I remember that night. We were at that coffee house with that guy who looks strangely like Oleg and on the way home in the "snizzle." I always call it "sleaze" but "snizzle" actually sounds a bit friendlier and less oily. I love the light in this, especially those crisp and clean reflections. That red is quite searing, almost painful! Walgreens needs to cut down on its use of LEDs. Brilliant shot though, it's gorgeous!

The 'mate exposure ining centers' gets my imagination boggling! The cartoon in my mind would be banned by RR I'm sure. Super pic!

I'm with Andrea ... that partial sign on the awning really got my attention! I wonder what sort of an establishment it is? Aside from that ... the red is quite captivating! I want to walk through it and watch how the light changes as I step on the wet pavement.

Very nice. The cold damp night with a tanning salon sign right in the middle. Were you tempted to stop in for a warm-up? Anyway the lights on the damp street are fascinating and I light the whole feeling you've captured here. Well done.
