Description
It is said the the hot cross bun was first made and eaten by the saxon`s to worship the God Eostre (the cross is thought to have symbolized the four quarters of the moon). Eostre is
probably the origin of the name Easter. Protestant England attempted to ban the sale of the buns by bakers but they were too popular, and instead Elizabeth the I, passed a law permitting bakeries to sell them, but only at Easter and
Christmas. Normally all pubs are shut today, but Pubs in Limerick have been granted permission to open on Good Friday to accommodate rugby fans there to watch Munster take on Leinster.
