Description

concept art for a visual novel thinger I'm working on. imagine an abandoned oil rig type of structure suspended in the atmosphere by balloons. this is a part which has been converted into some kind of garden. not super happy with how the trees came out, but I'm trying to narrow such a fine line between realism and "toon", it's really difficult. basic modeling and lighting in 3ds max, then rendered in several masked passes. details added/painted in photoshop

Super. I love the blend of realities in this--"normal" reality and the more stylized "toon" reality. The concept is quite amazing and well realized. This is really exquisite work that reminds me of some of the stuff I once saw when OMNI Magazine existed and scores of Science Fiction painters were feverishly creating strange new words (sometimes in garish colors.) And speaking of colors, I love the cool bluish grays dominating this. This is quite marvelous work!
