Description

I dedicate this collage of two photos of the Old Town Square in Prague to René (renecyberdoc), so he doesn't think we don't love him. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, RENE'!!! The Old Town Square (Staromestske Namesti) is one of two main squares ((the other is Wenceslas Square) in the city centre of Prague. Dating back to the late 12th century, the Old Town Square started life as the central marketplace for Prague. Over the next few centuries, many buildings of Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic styles were erected around the market. The Old Town Square's most notable sights are the Church of Our Lady before Tyn (on the left), the Old Town Hall Tower and Astronomical Clock (on the right) and the St. Nicholas Church (from whose steps I was taking the shots, so you can't see it). At the centre of the Old Town Square is the Jan Hus statue, you can see behind the giant Easter egg made with ribbons and forsythia flowers. The monument was erected in 1915 to mark the 500th anniversary of the religious reformer's death at the stake. When I took the photos it has just poured rain. Thanks for your kind comments.

Sandra this is such a warm and wonderful birthday dedi and I just know Rene will be touched by it. Your right he does have so many friends here who love him and I think he is finding that out. This is without a doubt the most beautiful town square I have ever seen before. The buildings are beautiful and in such perfect condition as all around them the area is teaming with life. It reminds me a bit of the smaller square I love in San Miguel De Allende when they have their International food and wine festival.

Seeing this image puts a lump in my throat! Living in the Czech Republic for two glorious years has changed me forever and well...Prague is my adopted home city, seeing her here and captured so perfectly is quite touching! I love this image and I'm particularly fond of the fact that it's also a birthday dedication. I'll be returning to Prague (and going on to my other adopted home city of Moscow,) and this image really inspires me to hold on to that goal. Aside from that, this is a marvelous image...so utterly flawless. So vibrant and alive. Wonderful work! By the way, you were very literally steps away from the house where Franz Kafka was born, if you concentrate on the left side of this picture!
