Description
So I have a bit of a question.
I am currently playing the latest Final Fantasy game, and have just replayed through FF7 again (possibly the greatest game ever) and was thinking about the artistic styling in these games and the other games in the FF series.
There is definetly elements of steam punk, cyber, goth, medevial, amongst other things in the varying design of the characters and places, and was wondering if there is a term that encompasses all of these or is it just the final fantasy style as a whole.
Diztanz over on the forums suggested Sci-Fantasy (which I stole for the title of this peice) or that it is its on genre.
thoughts?

Not sure what you'd call it - I've always used the term Fantascience Fiction, but tht sounds like it's sponsored by a certain popular, carbonated, fruity beverage - though Sci-Fantasy is as good a name as any. It's probably more dificult because when you look at it, science fiction isn't really a genre - it's a setting. You can have sci-fi horror (like Alien), sci-fi comedy (like Men In Black), sci-fi fantasy (like Star Wars), sci-fi romance (like... The Time Traveller's Wife?), etc. Still, excellent capture of the FF series look here - she's gorgeous.

I think it fits under Science-Fantasy. Because it has heavy elements of both Sci-fiction and Fasntasy.. Excellent characterization.

Sci-fi and fantasy are actually very closely related and have a large gray area between the genres. With the introduction of plausible future technology, the term fantasy simply does not fit the profile. Both being part of the 'fiction' genre, when approached with as simple an explanation as possible, sci-fi is a realtiy setting close enough to our own way of life, yet using technology to create a fictional setting, whereas fantasy delves into the more spiritual side of things. All in all, the term to encompass the entire genre is plain fiction, and as soon as technology meets magic, it is quick to fall to fantasy, as technology may well be based on the laws of magic, rather than our own science. That being said, call it however you like it; this lady's got a good place in the Halls of Renderosity.

I think techno-fantasy, mecha or manga and anime is the general terms for the style. Long time ago (prior to 1945), it was all pulp-fiction. Beautiful character, wonderfully done.

How about "Final Couture?" Wrong useage of the French word "Dressmaking" (Couture) but it feels right and seems to fit. Couture is a common abbreviation of Haute Couture, which refers to the same thing in spirit (source; wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haute_couture) Maybe they mean the spirit within? Hmmmmm.
