Description

Namibia 2010 One of our desert trips was to the reknowned Spitzkoppe approximately 100km from Henties Bay. None of us has visited these mountains before and we were gobsmacked! Between my brother and I we probably shot 1500 images in a couple of hours. The next couple of days I'll post some of mine. This was taken at the Western entrance of this conservation area. I saw the nest and thought it would make a nice image! For those that are interested, here is some Wiki info: The Spitzkoppe between Usakos and Swakopmund is also described as the "Matterhorn of Namibia". It rises to an altitude of about 1800 metres and is situated in an endless, dry plain. The island of mountains can be seen from far away. The granite massif, which is part of the Erongo Mountains, was created by the collapse of a gigantic volcano more than 100 million years ago and the subsequent erosion, which exposed the volcanic rock, granite. San (Bushman) paintings can be found in various places, many in the "Bushman Paradise" under an overhanging rock wall. Thank you for your valued comments and favs on my upload of yesterday - "Welwitchia mirabilis." Stay well! Hugs, Carin Be sure to visit the April Forum Challenge. "Less is More"

WOW!!! I have some Jeremejevite and Beryl crystals from Damaraland and Usakos in the Erongo Mountains. You will never understand the thrill of seeing the actual majestic area. Thank you so very much Carin, for this great share. Super catch of the birds nest. Dana
