Description

Now these birds have views that NO ONE will ever take away....well, with the possible exception of Mother Nature. They dig out these little alcoves in the sheer cliff faces to make their nests. Precarious perches, at best, but they don't seem to mind in the least. I can't help but wonder, and worry, however, about the little hatchlings when it comes time to test their wings. *shivers* Okay, well, don't dwell on that, okay? Maybe they're just there taking a breather and enjoying the view. Like the,m, just enjoy this one for the view. Here you can really see the layers of sediment that have built up around Montana de Oro and make it such a remarkable place. I do know the kinds of birds these are but my mind is taking a mental vacation at the moment. Is there a geologist in the house? *grin* Photo (c) 2009 Twilight Productions

Oh you scared me with the title! I was expecting the worst after a series of wonderful nature shots. Glad it turned out this way! As for geology.. it is definitly terrestrial sediments and not marine - too many cobbles for marine. But it is not likely river either as the bedding planes are too course. My guess it is colluvium from an alluvial fan feeding off some high land in the area. JMHO :-) well you asked for it!

Wow .. how do they even get enough of a spot to stand on to dig out their little nesting holes??
