Description

Thailand. Periodically rings (spiral) at will, or necessarily, act in film and put on again, it does not cause harm to health. In case of full refusal of carrying of rings, the neck assumes a usual air for the period from a year to three. There is an ordinary myth that women-giraffes cannot live without these rings. It not so, women with the removed rings do not suffer from their absence. X-ray researches of women-padaung have shown that actually for the account of rings the neck is not extended, and the humeral zone is deformed, a humeral belt gradually fall under weight of rings as it fastens to a skeleton by means of all one joint. Visibility of a long neck is as a result created, but in the neck no changes occur.

Good shot! Recent studies have indicated that this does little to lengthen the neck, but will compress the shoulder areas into the rib cage. The studies were based on measurements of skeletal remains.

I was going to say the same as Whaleman. I was fascinated by this process as a young girl - saw it in National Geographic - and I have read much about it over these many years. This is a fabulous photo and equal to those photos I saw in NG so many years ago. Excellent portrait.

All in the name of beauty.. its a shame. If a husband thinks his wife has done wrong he has the right to remove her rings. Without them she can no longer lift her head and lays and dies. The picture is good, but I really hate the subject matter.
