Description

INTRODUCTION DAY Not so much a piece of artwork, although I did create it myself. More a means of grabbing folks attention so I can introduce you to a new multi-series I will be showcasing here over the next few months. Before I go any further its important to tell you a little bit more about me so you know how the series was conceived and how it is laid out so here goes. The various series which make up this project were created in blocks of five, ten, fifteen, twenty or twenty-five pictures with write-ups. You will also know when each new part of the series starts because the letters ABIS will appear on the title of the first picture in a new series. I am not going to tell you what ABIS stands for as I think some will work that out for themselves next week and that will add to the enjoyment. Also some of the write-ups for the pictures are going to be deliberately cryptic so as not to give the overall game away too quickly in the hopes that this will also add to your enjoyment. Since 2004 I have had the great honour and privilege to be a trainee on programmes either organised by, or supported by NASA the American Space Agency at both Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, and in Huntsville, in Alabama. During my training stints I have got to know astronauts, engineers, scientists and various other learned people within the aero-space industry and this has given me a sort of inside track into what has been going off at NASA and what plans were being conceived for the future. When I got the idea for this series I wanted to make it as believable as possible and so on more than one occasion I have bounced my ideas off the folks I know for their input and advice. The various series you will be seeing are set just a little bit into the future and are a mixture of science-fact (space and aero-space) and fiction. In a way I like to think of them as NASA could-be and not necessarily NASA will-be. To make the entire series just that little bit more believable I have had to re-write history just a little bit at the very beginning and I hope no one minds when they see what I have done. As with most works of fiction, my series has a hero of sorts and not so much a villain as a motivator for the part the hero plays, you will see what I mean next week. It was never my intention to create something as big as this project has become, but when I started to create the pictures and write the story the project started to take on a life of its own and so it may take many months to come to its final end, so my plan is to interlace the various series which make up the whole project with the other types of pictures some of you already know I create. I also plan on taking you through the test phase for some of the machinery you will see in the various series just to make things more interesting. You will see what I mean as things progress. Today has been an introduction day to an Introduction Week. Each day next week will feature 1) a picture of a machine significant in some way to the series, 2) a description of the part that machine played in a specific section of history, 3) the first part of the story which leads into the first series which will follow on after next week. Throughout the various series you may also see an Author/Artists Notes section at the end. This is intended just to give you a little bit more information as a form of reference. Some of the most important models I will be using in the various series I have had to design myself then had built for me to use. So lastly but most importantly of all I would like to take this opportunity to thank the person that some of you may know as Mechmaster, famous for his fantastic Dalek designs for agreeing to build for me the computer models I designed for the series. We worked together many long months to get the models just right and without Mechmasters help this series could not have been possible - thank you for helping me turn my dream into a computer based reality it is very much appreciated.
