Description

Namibia 2010 This is the 3rd image in the series that I shot at the Spitzkoppe in Namibia. This rock formation is called "The Bridge" and you can see some scale with my brother standing under the bridge. It was quite a climb for him on smooth rock but I will be ever thankful for his courage! I tried, but chickened out about three quarter way up! In my defence - I only wore flip-flops!!! Thank you for popping in and for your support in comments and favs on my 2nd Spitzkoppe upload yesterday. Stay well! Hugs Carin xx For those who missed the first upload, here are some facts on these mountains that I copied from Wiki: The Spitzkoppe between Usakos and Swakopmund is also described as the "Matterhorn of Namibia". It rises to an altitude of about 1800 metres and is situated in an endless, dry plain. The island of mountains can be seen from far away. The granite massif, which is part of the Erongo Mountains, was created by the collapse of a gigantic volcano more than 100 million years ago and the subsequent erosion, which exposed the volcanic rock, granite. San (Bushman) paintings can be found in various places, many in the "Bushman Paradise" under an overhanging rock wall.

That's not a defense... shame on you for such foot wear.. lol. Great place and image. Just did a quick search to answer my geological curiosity. A fascinating area, it reminds me of a rock preserve here in the Mojave. Thanks so much for sharing.

Absolutely amazing. Natural wonders really give us pause, and some humility at times. Beautiful image. Glad your brother was able to demonstrate the size of this.

When I was 15, my school took a group of us to an amazing place called the elephant's hide.........so named cos it's a huge sloping mountain of flat rock. Anyway, mum surprised me with a new pair of R.M.Williams boots which are very classy riding boots. But they have leather soles and I had to climb the entire way sliding on my butt!

How can I put in words how magnificent a capture this is, Carin? The Bridge looks like it was hand carved by a huge giant. I know! It's the skeletal spinal cord remains of a humongous dinosaur, lying horizontally...that's it!!! Your brother was most courageous in climbing that slippery slope. And flip-flops? I thought only beachzz wore those, despite the terrain. I would wear spiked cleats in a similar situation.

Outstanding capture Carin. I just want to say your brother did you a big favor by standing where he stood as it portrays scale superbly.Next time take some descent walking shoes with.
