Description
Left for dead
In the middle of a Texas desert
I don’t know if it was the summer sun
My cursed enemy and best friend Jack Daniels
Or maybe the peyote
But I saw my life
Flash before my eyes
All of the things I have done
And the things I should have done
In a mangled mesh
Of colors and sounds
Invaded my mind
Clouds the shape of great warriors
Were fighting in the sky
And I just knew I was going to die
But then the great God of visions
Sent me a sign
That everything was going to be OK
I rolled onto my side
And there one foot in front of me
Was the Great Armadillo
Sitting up on his hind feet
Staring me straight in the eyes
I knew the miniature rhino
Was going to say something deep and profound
That would change my life forever
So I ask his infamous wisdom
What do you want from me
Without saying a word
With a connection of the soul and mind
He said to me
A baloney sandwich dumb ass
And hold the mustard
And I knew I was going to be alright
Yesterday a friend of mine from work told me a story of one time when he was along a river bed in Texas that this Armadillo walked right up to him, sit up on his hind feet and looked at him like he was asking for a baloney sandwich. After about 10 seconds he figured out that he wasn’t going to get any food so he just walked away. The way he told it was so funny. I knew I had to try and write a poem about a great Armadillo. Trust me his story is way funnier than this poem. I hope you liked it.

His story must have been very funny indeed, if it was funnier than this! I love the way it has a serious, western melodrama feel to it until you get to the last three lines, which have a great comical punch. Really fine writing, Randy! I love it!

Now that a subject I've never read a poem on...you pulled it off WONDERFULLY!!! My dogs do the same thing....sit there and stare at you...with that slight plea in there eyes...lol
