Description

Typical early afternoon cloud build-up over the mountains east of Phoenix during the Arizona monsoon. By early evening these clouds are fully developed cumulonimbus and can reach heights of over 40,000-ft. After dark they often have spectacular lightning displays and may slide into the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix Metropolitan Area) and provide isolated precipitation. This picture was taken in August 1991 and later scanned. Thanks for visiting, Sig...

What a POV! I'd be a bit nervous flying that close.

Without the mountain (orographic) precipitation Arizona would be uninhabitable! Great plane window shot!
