Description

Walking in the dark (3:30 am) and headed to the Pali where the lava is coming down. A lot of ups, downs, cracks and a few ground breaking collapses. But when climbing up the Pali (hill) in the dark, it is a little more difficult especially when there is a lot of a'a around. When I arrived at the base of the Pali, a tiny bit of sunrise came. I could see and zig-zag my way up to the 450 ft elevation level where the lava was coming down. The harden lava found here was a little more porous as compared to the pahoehoe on the costal plains... Pahoehoe can change into a'a but never the reverse. In some areas, it was difficult to tell which was new and which was old but the tiny vegetation on the old lava rocks told the story. This was taken on Sunday. The lava has erased my foot prints since then and is nearing the costal plains. Aloha and thank you for viewing

So you are still unable to sleep, eh? LOL I'm glad because these travels you make are so interesting. I wonder how light this lava is when it hardens...I've seen some so very porous and light, and I've handled some so very heavy. Wonderful lines in this.

It does look lighter, is it because of more ash or air? As always outstanding image!

An amazing capture of this lava. You seem to live dangerously to get the shot. Please be careful.

That's really cool! Nothing beats the color of hot lava, it's an awesome shade of orange; it goes awesome with with color of cooled lava! Another excellent shot my friend!
