Description

Inspired by the view of Mt Rainier across the Green River Valley. Daz SubDragon, everything else modeled by me. EDITED: Encroachment on Dragons Valley, is a representation of my feelings, and after Faemike55s comment asking how the Dragon will stop the encroachment, I figured I’d edit the text portion to explain. The answer is, he can’t. I was born and raised here in the Seattle area but in 1984 I moved to California. I only moved back last year. When I returned, I didn’t expect things to be exactly the same but as I explored and revisited areas, I saw a lot more changes than I had expected. Large chunks of forested lands cleared for strip malls and crowded housing tracks. Supermalls and racetracks and industrial buildings where fields, farms and wet lands used to be. Game Farms with wild pheasants and more, turned into tennis courts and ball fields. Certain areas have expanded 10 – 15miles out from the suburbs towards the Cascade Mountain range and new towns/cities have popped up completely suburbanized with Starbucks and Walmart stores and large 4 lane streets. As I drive through these areas, once occupied by thick lush evergreen forests I used to roam through, my heart begins to hurt. I ask why, even though I know the bottom line is money. But I think to myself, there are other alternatives before expansion. I see a lot of run down areas that could be torn down and rebuilt, thus saving numerous acres of wild land and improving the current area. But as I look at the areas being HUMANIZED, I realize there is nothing I can do until I have so much money that I can buy the state of Washington and all the glorious wilderness within its boundaries. There is still a lot of forested land and wilderness, but its being quickly urbanized. So this pic is me looking over a land that has gone into the future and will continue to move forward and be encroached upon along with the memories of my home that I love so much. Thank you for comments and even just looking.

A beautiful and emotive image, Michael. I completely understand and sympathize with your sentiments. It turns my stomach to see wilderness areas "developed". Other d-words come to mind for me: defaced, devoured, destroyed, etc. Thanks for sharing this thoughtful message with us.
