Description

The Frari’s Basilica. The garden. The ancient friary of the Friars Minor Conventuals was called “Magna Domus Venetiarum”. During the Napoleonic suppression (1810) the friars were expelled. Later on, in 1815, the friary was turned into the STATE ARCHIVES. With its enormous collection of documents, it is one of the most famous archives in the world, containing the complete documents of the Venetian Republic from the ninth century to its fall at the end of the eighteenth century.
