Description

Just a Memory I once heard two men talking, and one asked the other how he was doing, the man answered,Oh just killing time! The first man was silent for a second and then replied, No my friend, Time is killing you! So the truth comes out, the very split second we draw our first breath, we start dying. When we are young, old age and death is the furthest thing from our thoughts, but as we grow older we foresee the hand of death lurking around the corner. A lot of young people forget that the old person walking slowly in front of them were once young , had dreams, wanted everything in life, but now they are over looked and are just in the way. The old person of yesteryear use to have respect for the years that they had lived, and the knowledge they had acquired. But now in this day of time, many of the elderly are spat upon, beaten, and robbed, so goes humanity and love. At one time I worked in a nursing home, and I saw it as a place for some loved ones to be put so they are out of the way¦Im not saying all are like that, some families come in every day to visit and comfort their adored elders, but for many more its just a dumping ground to make dear old Mom, Dad, Aunt, or Uncle. Out of site and out of mind. I have looked on these lovely life filled faces and saw a glimmer of hope that someone would stop by and see them, just for a short visit, or their birthday, or Christmas, even just a Hello would have brought happiness to them. But then you see the shine go dull in their broken hearted eyes as they realize that no one cares or has the time and show them that they are loved. For you see most times our elderly are Just a Memory. I have always loved studying people, got that from my Mother I figure, especially the elderly. You can see their whole life in their face and eyes. I have had a number of people ask me why do you make portraits of old people with all those wrinkles and such. One thing I can say. For me; their not just a Memory. Larry Fridel Thank you for viewing and your comments. Used Poser 6, and Photoshop CS. Image copyright © 2010, Larry Fridel. Very expressive portrait, you can read his life in the lines of his face, much more interesting than smooth, pristine unblemished skin. This piece is a real pleasure to view.
