I'm in south Sweden, near Copenhagen. The sky is grey with a slight yellow tinge, and there's a slight odor of sulpher in the air. We're far from Iceland, but are getting it. The volcano is calculated to be spewing out 3 times as much sulpher as all of Europe's combined industries. The cloud is up to 55,000 feet high over Iceland. I can just imagine what accumulated volcanic grit does to a jet engine. It's like sand blasting its insides. The old propeller planes didn't suffer as much, since air intakes could be filtered. :) An interesting aside- the Afrika Korps ordered large quantities of women's stockings. This caused considerable wonderment at German military headquarters in Berlin, until Rommel told them it was to filter out sand from the air intakes of his tanks, trucks and airplanes. :)

A very stylish portion of the plane, looks almost like a bomb (?) well presented, Priska... BB

Most excellent shot. I heard about this on the news and couldn't imagine the dust cloud that would absolutely stop airlines. I live over here in the states and yesterday there was a massive explosion of a oil drilling station plunked right into the sea off of Texas. Oil is spliling into the gills of beautiful fish the glorious sea and the coral reef kingdom. When will they ever learn...

Thanks for this Priska. I like your composition and the update on the impact of the volcanic dust in the air.

It's taken me a while to see this and I love the image! It's so clean--artistically at least. Here in the USA we're not getting an obvious amount of dust, but it's here...faintly. I don't think we're noticing the slight "dusting" of dust we're getting. This is a marvelous shot!
