Description

After 10- 12 hr days, and almost my fill of ZBrush.. I'm learning and at 62 I make a lot of mistakes, But I have this well enough along to upload it as a model to C3D tomorrow. You movie buffs, and old people like me will remember this image from the 1959 movie Ben-Hur, and based on that famous chariot race in the movie. Just learning the ins and outs of ZB with Modo, I regret that the figure is quite large in poly count.. 1.9M, and about 80 Megs in file size. Luckily the structure is rather small. The model represents approx. 27x137x350 ft total structure. In the original movie, there was two such structures and 4 figures. The memory requirements however would make this to large a work on for most. My model will be comprised of two VOB files, one of the figure and one of the structure. This will allow one to use them both together or separate, and depending on their system, they simple will duplicate the figure to place at the other end if desired. I will be creating the outer arena walls and main columned structure at the rear of the scene as seen in the movie stills. I may even create the mountain walls around the arena as in the original. The center structure has a number of niches for billboard statues or other items you might find appropriate. Remember that people will be quite small next to this to look right. The figures at the ends are aprox. 60 ft tall not including what they are sitting on. While I am generally pleased with the ZB figure, I made many mistakes in creating the mesh which has brought about the high poly count. Something to learn for the future... There are a number of fine chariots and horse teams out there to purchase. One suggestion I have for those with smaller systems who would like to create that stunning scene.. is to look at your creation in sections.. layout your terrain, the outer arena.. I guess I really need to make this hey!!, and the interior, this model. All can be rendered separately and then layered in photoshop .... this goes doubly for the chariots, horses, and drivers. If you take up the challenge to make something really stunning and have a question, feel free to drop me a line. Learning and being creative is what its all about. So its off to bed...., and don't forget to zoom in. cheers London224

This is great modelling and would make an awesome scene, particularly with the outer walls and the charioteers etc... and plenty of dust! Excellent work.

Excellent modeling! I imagine modeling a human figure to be quite a bit harder than modeling buildings no matter how detailed. Your ZBrush work is turned out very, very well as did the building.
