Description

This is a shot from one of the walking trails in the Hoh rain forest. The Hoh receives 12 to 14 feet of rain a year. That's about 4 meters. Seriously! In order to give you an idea of where we were, let me start by giving you a MAP OF WASHINGTON (Washington is on the west coast of the United States, and shares a border with Canada.) If you look at the map, you'll see Seattle sort of in the middle and to the left of center. Got it? My house is about 25 miles north of Seattle, just south of Everett. Now look at the map again, and you'll see that north and west of Seattle is a large peninsula marked "Olympic National Park." In the center of that peninsula is a mountain range called the Olympic Mountains (dark green on the map). Do you see that there's a river which runs from the mountains (starting just around the "N" in "National") directly west to the ocean? That's the Hoh River. Here's a website that will tell you more about the rain forest in general ... HOH RAIN FOREST The Olympic National Park was named a World Heritage Site in 1981 ... it's that spectacular!

A fantastic image with just a hint of mist for atmosphere! Superb composition. I've never seen a fallen tree with branches still attached. Thanks for the map link, it's a good one.
