Description

Pelicans are my favorite bird not only because they are the silliest looking but are also one of the most graceful birds when in flight. There are also two other characteristics that endear them to me. Depending on how I’m feeling on any particular day, they remind me of pterodactyls, flying dinosaurs, or PBY flying boats.

Fabulous! I like the arc pattern and the subtly different shapes.

Almost military formation, and your right, so graceful in flight, if a little ungainly on the ground.

Nice composition!! They are wonderful birds to watch. I most enjoy the way they will coast on the draft of the waves.

Ahhh, I might have to dig out my shot of pelicans from my trip to Galveston... :-) They are up on my top 10 list for birds as well. Love this shot and the mood created!

Superb composition and the lighting is perfect. I too love them. Sometimes I watch them take off and they flap their wings madly and I think ut oh, it's not gonna make it, but they always do. They are such comical looking characters. I can sit here and watch them dive bomb into the water all day.

Pelicans are high on my list too. They can look so at one and right when sitting on a stump or flying in the air and then go all comically wrong when coming in for a landing. Beautiful capture! I love the silhouettes, wonderfully arched against the simple beauty of the sea. Pterodactyls, I think.

Pelicans are amazing, and rather cute in a pelican-ish way that no other bird can capture! I love the fact that they show up in beautiful silhouette with just a tinge of light catching the contours of wing or beak. This is a stunning and elegant photograph.
