Description
I did this a couple of months ago, but didn't post it here before because I thought it might be a tad controversial given the subject matter. However, on the occasion of the 62nd anniversary of the rebirth of the State of Israel, I feel it's appropriate. It's called 'The Hope' because it represents the hope of those Jews trapped in the ghettos of Poland by the Nazis for freedom in their own land. This is articulated by young Mattias, who has defiantly painted in Hebrew on a crumbing wall, the lyrics to a song - an act which would have likely gotten him shot if caught. The words this young boy (who would untimely survive and make his way to Palestine in 1945) were the words to the anthem of the Zionist movement - appropriately called 'Hatikva' (The Hope). This song would then become the anthem of the nation of Israel and will be sung many times today. It is worth remembering that no matter how bleak thinks look, as long as you maintain hope, you still have a chance at realizing your dreams.
Here is the English translation of the words to Hatikva:
As long as in the heart, within,
A Jewish soul still yearns,
And onward, towards the ends of the east,
An eye still gazes toward Zion;
Our hope is not yet lost,
The hope of two thousand years,
To be a free people in our land,
The land of Zion and Jerusalem.
