Description
My friend who has a background in gun repair acquired this and knew it couldn't be repaired and informed the owner. It is in horrid condition corrosion and solid rusted parts and a few bogus repairs. I did an internet check on the serial number. It is a 1913 Ithaca Flues model. At best this can be cleaned up somewhat and the wood replaced (which can be obtained on line) and placed over a fireplace as a trophy.

A nice piece, a shame it should come to this.As you say, it could make a very pleasant wall ornament.A shotgun over the fireplace is always a talking point.

Sad people have little value in items they did not work hard to get. The person likely had little use for it and likely acquired it as a hand me down. Hope it is disabled as a wall hanger.

Wow, glad you posted this. It made me go to my closet and pull out my deceased father-in-law's old double barrel shotgun to look it over in detail. It says "Springfield", J. Stevens Arms Company on the left side. On the top of the barrels it says Selected Forged Steel and Proof Tested 16 Guage, 2 3/4 Inch Chamber. On the right side, "5000". I don't see any serial number (may be under the front hand guard) and the condition is good...no rust and all the wood is in very good condition although it has signs of being banged around a bit in the field. I'll have to do a little online research thanks to your inspiration.
