Description

Germany, Rostock. There's an area in northeast Germany and northern Poland that has this peculiar brick gothic cathedrals, interesting and unusual for who's accustomed to think of gothic as stricly linked to stone masonry. Brick has a compression strength far below stone, so it's tricky, and makes for some special shapes ...

yes, my friend. A lot of cathedrals ( and castles sometimes )of northern Germany and Poland are made with bricks. In Spania there is a very strange brick castle in Coca.

This is impressive. Like you, I am used to seeing stone. Cannot even imagine how many bricks must be in such a grand structure. Outstanding photo and like the vertical rise to the entire image...lofty spiritual thoughts accompany such creations.
