Description

I made this picture from a hanging walkway leading into the street-level entrance to a factory on Lawrence Avenue. The complex itself was perched on the bank of the Chicago River, not far from the Lawrence Avenue Bridge. When you stand on this platform, you're suspended roughly 40 feet above the water's edge. For a person who suffers from mild acrophobia, this is all quite thrilling. I made this picture on Valentine's Day, 2010.

When I saw your title, all I thought of was being kicked out of school!! Geez, will I never stop worrying about that??? I'm trying to figure out which end is which here, but I can see how anyone with a fear of heights would not want to walk here. Great shot!!

Fantastic! I can feel the drop. I'm only "mildly" as well, so it does provide a bit of a thrill! That feeling shows up perfectly in this image. Nicely done!

I love the sense of vertigo this picture gives me. It's kind of like walking on a space station and realizing that "down" is only determined by which way your feet are pointing, especially since "down" and "outside" are the same direction, roughly speaking. I love the lines in this too, and that wintery blue color. Nicely thrilling and that whole sort of sideways thing really works!

This pic gives me butterflies in my stomach. I used to have nightmares of being trapped on some rickety platform with no way off and it starts to collapse with me. This picture gives me the same feeling. Way out shot!

This is wonderful! I'm still trying to sort out all the bits. I used to hang over high places with great aplomb, now my stomach goes into a sinking routine, like it is trying to find the ground. I still love looking down, I just have to grab hold of something secure to appease my stomach. I love all the planes and lines! The snowy and icy ground have interesting patterns of footprints and branches, but are still plain and light enough to show off the lines of the walkway really well. Excellent shot!
