And what of the shame of not taking up arms to prevent innocent people being enslaved (blacks in centuries past) or killed (the Jews by Hitler)? Peace is good and peaceful solutions are ideal, but sometimes the gun is the only answer.

Then how would you have stopped Hitler? Or any of a number of despots. They don't respond well to pretty please. And ignoring them just emboldens them.
